Since our inception in 1996, we've grown from a few machines to a multi-million dollar company with a number of state-of-the-art CNC machining centers housed in a 34,000 sq. ft. facility that boasts one of the most advanced computerized anodizing systems in the country. In spite of a recessionary economy, we plan on continuing this upward trajectory and are poised for about 30% growth over the next 3-5 years.
As CNC Programmer, you'll be dedicated to our Swiss machining centers and your twofold mission is to: (1) interact with customers to finalize design specifications, incorporating design for manufacturability to optimize part processing for speed, quality, and cost as well as creating competitive advantage for DewTec; and (2) provide the most efficient programming for material removal and product quality on a variety of CNC equipment (primarily Swiss machining centers). You'll take ownership of the entire product life cycle from concept to production as you galvanize the operators and shop floor team by influence, energize and inspire the team to meet their production targets and drive to completion.
What You'll Bring to the Table
- 3-5 years of experience in collaborative design and CNC programming (ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of Swiss machining centers (preferably STAR machines) including:
- Ability to program in seven or eight axes.
- Knowledge of complex geometries.
- Experience with high-volume production, thread whirling and quick change tooling.
- Familiarity with mono-axial and poly-axial bone screws.
- Familiarity with OSHA and safety regulations and procedures.
- Knowledge of SolidWorks, PartMaker, or related CAD/CAM software.
- Outstanding project management, time management and multitasking skills.
- Strong communication skills to interface with diverse stakeholders.
- A passion for improving processes and a commitment to customer satisfaction.
- Ability to travel (up to 10%) to nationwide destinations
Preferred, but not required:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience with medical device manufacturing or other manufacturing under FDA QSR and/or ISO 13485 control.
- Experience with variable or macro programming.

More About Your Role
Reporting directly to the Director of Manufacturing, you will join an Engineering department of seven at our Fairborn office. Coming aboard, you'll aim to "hit the ground running" and quickly develop an understanding of our processes and environment so that you can begin making a real impact. During the first year, you'll focus on achieving the following goals:
- Utilize the full capability of Swiss machining centers to allow us to win new business.
- Drive improvements in part cycle time by 30%.
As you can imagine, this is a project driven role and at any given time you'll be working on 3-4 projects (with an average development cycle of two weeks), but deadlines are a constant consideration. At a high level, you'll be spending about 70% of your time programming; another 10% interfacing with customers and design collaboration; and the remaining 20% on the shop floor, dealing with day-to-day issues and staying on top of commitment dates. Specifically, your responsibilities are to:
- Provide customer design support and create a finished product design for the customer, incorporating design for manufacturability.
- Build customer relationships through visits to key account customers, as well as hosting key account customer visits that are focused on part design.
- Program CNC equipment, primarily Swiss machining centers (Unigraphics based).
- Partner with Sales to support account management--you'll communicate frequently with the relevant Account Manager(s) to ensure that they have the most up-to-date information regarding project status for customer communications.
- Provide hands-on support and troubleshooting for the shop floor to enable production schedules and quality objectives to be met for the parts that you have designed/programmed.
- Provide input and support for continuous improvement projects that a) create gains in material or operating time efficiencies in machining operations and/or downstream operations, or b) improve product quality, or c) improve safety.
- Comply with relevant quality systems as you follow established requirements for change control, quality systems requirements, and other processes and procedures as may be established, and complete all assigned training.
- Perform other duties as specifically assigned by the Director of Manufacturing.
